  • In India, oral cancer remains a major public health concern, particularly in rural and underserved regions where access to healthcare resources is limited. The country faces a severe shortage of trained specialists and dental professionals equipped to conduct regular screenings and early diagnoses. As a result, many cases of oral cancer are detected only in advanced stages, when treatment options are limited and survival rates are significantly lower. High prevalence of risk factors such as tobacco chewing, smoking, and alcohol consumption further contributes to the growing incidence of the disease. Compounding the problem is the lack of affordable and portable screening tools, which prevents large-scale community-level examinations. Public awareness about early symptoms and preventive measures is also insufficient, leading to delayed consultations and poor prognosis. Late-stage diagnosis not only increases treatment complexity but also imposes heavy emotional and financial burdens on patients and their families.
