Despite millions of root canal treatments being performed each year worldwide, a significant number of these procedures still result in failure or complications. The main reasons for these high error rates are the anatomical complexity of the root canal system and the limitations of current drilling techniques. Root canals often have intricate, curved, or narrow pathways that are difficult to navigate accurately using traditional tools, increasing the risk of missed canals, perforations, or excessive removal of healthy tooth structure. Such errors can lead to persistent infection, tooth weakening, or even the need for retreatment or extraction. Conventional methods rely heavily on the operator’s skill and experience, making consistency and precision challenging to achieve. Therefore, there is an urgent need for advanced, minimally invasive technologies that enhance accuracy while preserving as much natural tooth tissue as possible. The integration of digital imaging, computer-guided navigation, and robotics in endodontic procedures shows great promise in improving outcomes.
